Prospect Local History Group presents more public tours of the Prospect Air Raid Shelter, which was built in 1942. Prospect Local History Group and the City of Prospect have together brought fresh life to this historic wartime area through landscaping, honour boards, mural and seating. Display panels tell the story of how the air raid shelter came to be built in the darkest days of the Second World War.

The Prospect Air Raid Shelter Gardens commemorate those who served in the War and honours the civil defence effort in our local community, under the leadership of former Prospect Mayor, Charlie Williamson. Additional display panels tell the tragic stories of several other local people who were involved in the theatre of war. A stunning mural highlights the efforts of locals.

In this tour we will also visit the interior of the shelter and learn how our civil defence was planned. A short film made in 1942 illustrates the efforts made to prepare the population for the event of air attack.
