Design Guidelines for Character Areas
The character of local areas is often a misunderstood and misused concept. Suburban Residential Character Assessment was prepared by staff as part of the Housing Diversity and Desirable Neighbourhoods Study to provide an evidence based assessment tool to identify and categorise character areas within our residential streets. This work was supported by feedback from design experts, stakeholders and the community.
The findings of our Study showed that within the City of Prospect, three character areas (Landscape, Built Form and Mixed) existed. Design Guidelines have now been prepared for each of these character areas to assist applicants, the development industry, staff, community and other relevant stakeholders to consider desired contextual design outcomes for these locally valued areas.
