Schools Precinct Safety Community Reference Group
Expression of Interest – community representatives
Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from community members for up to two community or resident representative positions on the SPSCRG.
Community representatives will bring local knowledge and community perspectives to the Group’s discussions. Applicants should have a connection with City of Prospect, an interest in school precinct safety and the capacity to contribute constructively to collaborative discussions.
The Schools Precincts Safety Community Reference Group (SPSCRG) is a Council led initiative that seeks to provide an ongoing forum for Council, local schools, community representatives and relevant stakeholders to work together on parking, traffic and pedestrian safety within school precincts across City of Prospect.
The group builds on the discussion and ideas generated through the School Parking and Traffic Forum held in February 2026. It is intended to support practical, solution-focused discussion about design, behaviour and education, parking enforcement, travel demand, school access and advocacy on matters involving State-controlled infrastructure or broader regulatory settings.
Background
In October 2025, Council resolved to convene a round-table workshop on parking enforcement around schools. The workshop was intended to bring together schools, residents, parents, Elected Members, government agencies and road safety stakeholders to identify key issues and opportunities associated with school pick-up and drop-off activity.
The School Parking and Traffic Forum was held at Payinthi on 11 February 2026. Representatives from the six schools across City of Prospect were invited to attended, along with adjoining residents, State Member for Adelaide, Elected Members, SAPOL, the RAA and other stakeholders. Aside from background information provided by the Council related to parking enforcement and traffic and parking management, the forum generated discussion on how school precinct safety could be improved across the themes of design, behaviour, responsibilities and demand.
Following the forum, Council resolved on 24 March 2026 to establish a Community Reference Group to continue the discussion and requested that Terms of Reference, including proposed membership, be presented to Council. On 26 May 2026 the Council endorsed the Schools Precinct Safety Community Reference Group (SPSCRG) Terms of Reference and appointed the Mayor Matthew Larwood and Cr Barnett and Hollitt as its representatives.
