Lost and Found Pets

If you have lost or found a pet, please contact us on telephone 8269 5355 at any time.

For animals found, an Animal Management Officer will attend to collect the animal from you as soon as possible.

We always aim to reunite animals with their owners; however, when a dog is found wandering within the City of Prospect without identification, it will be impounded until the owner is found. Fees apply for housing, caring, and feeding of the dog, and the owner or the person collecting the dog must pay the fee in full at Council before the dog can be released. Impounded animals are taken to one of the following locations:

Animal Welfare League (Cats)
1-19 Cormack Road
Wingfield
Tel: 8348 1300

Animal Welfare League (Dogs)
4 Hewittson Road
Edinburgh North
Tel: 8348 1300

Photographs of dogs impounded at the AWL are posted on their website at https://awl.org.au/council-found-pets

For lost animals we also recommend you contact:

  • Local veterinary clinics.
  • You may also consider placing notices on public notice boards or doing a letter box drop in your local area (please do not place signs on stobie poles).
  • You can also log into your DACO account and indicate your dog has been lost: www.dogsandcatsonline.com.au
