Tree Tags

City of Prospect is committed to the planting, protection, and management of all our local trees to safeguard and enhance our leafy character for future generations.

Our beautiful green tunnels (streets lined with trees where their canopies grow to touch across the street) are fundamental to creating a sense of place and increasing health and wellbeing across our city.

Trees look wonderful but also help to cool our streets and suburbs. They provide food and habitat for local wildlife and help remove carbon that we produce. Most importantly, they improve air quality by removing pollution and they also give us oxygen to breathe.

Currently, there are just over 15,000 trees growing alongside our streets and within our parks and that number is growing every year. Our aim is to plant hundreds of new trees each year, to create more green tunnels, homes for wildlife, and a cooler, happier city for all our residents.

Explore our Tree Tags Trail to discover just how cool our trees really are!

Collect your adventure booklet from the display at Payinthi (128 Prospect Road, Prospect) or download here: Tree Trail Guide.

Use the map in the booklet to find one or all of the 30 trees along the 2km trail.

Each tree is marked with a ‘Tree Tag’ with interesting facts about some of the benefits that tree provides.

CRACK THE CODE

23 of the 30 tagged trees along the Tree Tags Trail hide a secret message!

Visit each of the trees to find the 23 Tree Tags with a code number and code letter in the top right hand corner. When you find a code number and letter on a Tree Tag, write the code letter in the numbered square on the next page.

Once you have found all 23 Tree Tags with a code letter, and filled in the boxes in the right order, you will reveal the secret message!

You can walk some or all of the trail, it’s up to you! The full walk is about 30min, plus time to locate all of the Tree Tags and complete the activities in the booklet.

Enjoy your walk amongst our trees and keep an eye out for our new wildlife nesting boxes in some of our trees!

The trail starts at Payinthi (128 Prospect Road, Prospect) and continues east along Flora Tce to Soldier’s Memorial Gardens. From there the trail heads south and west to finish in St Helens Park.
