Council gathers momentum on Prospect Oval Precinct vision

22nd February 2024

The exciting Prospect Oval Precinct project is gathering momentum, with Council attending a workshop on Tuesday 13 February to delve into the project's roadmap.

Presented by Holmes Dyer Consultancy, the workshop provided Council with an overview of the next steps needed to commence planning for the entire Prospect Oval Precinct.

The first step in the site’s journey is to develop a ‘roadmap’, providing a transparent path for Council and the community to follow, mapping potential milestones, resources, risks, and a timeline of completion.

This marks the second workshop Councillors have participated in, commencing preliminary planning discussions on the project's outline following last November's acquisition and medium-term lease of 142-148 Main North Road.

Mayor Matt Larwood expressed Council’s enthusiasm to kick-start the project.

“The development of the Prospect Oval Precinct presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for our city,” Mayor Larwood stated.

"While it's a long-term project, we're committed to executing it with transparency and ensuring it aligns with the community's vision and Council's overarching goals."

Councillors engaged in high level discussions regarding setting a vision, timelines, responsibilities, and objectives, with a view to progressing plans toward a master-planned concept for the site. The aim is to refine the roadmap for endorsement at the April Council meeting.

"One of the very first stages of the roadmap is to develop a comprehensive community engagement strategy,” Mayor Larwood explained.

"Whether you're a passionate sports fan, a dog walker seeking green spaces, or a family enjoying picnics under the sun, this project is about creating a vibrant precinct that truly resonates with everyone.”

“I encourage our community to join the conversation and share their vision for the precinct’s future."
