Council refines vision for Prospect Lifestyle Precinct masterplan
Council was excited to share its next steps in the evolution of the Prospect Lifestyle Precinct master planning process at its workshop last night.
Building upon initial feedback on the preliminary master planning scenarios presented to Council in mid-November, City of Prospect Mayor Larwood announced that three refined scenarios were presented at last night’s Council Workshop for additional consideration.
“Council remains committed to transforming Prospect Oval and its surrounds into a vibrant hub that attracts a higher level of community usage, premier sports, and economic growth,” said Mayor Larwood.
“We’re currently focused on identifying the best elements from each master planning scenario to create a precinct that reflects the community's vision.”
These refined scenarios, developed by Walter Brooke and Taylor Cullity Lethlean, incorporate feedback from Council, the Facility Users Group and Community Reference Group on the initial scenarios, as well as feedback received from the broader community during Phase 1 consultation in July and August 2024.
“Residents continue to express a strong desire for increased green space, greater community use, improved facilities for sports and recreation, and the inclusion of high-quality mixed-use development opportunities,” explained Mayor Larwood.
“We believe these scenarios offer a balanced and realistic approach, catering to these community aspirations.”
Beyond these core elements, the scenarios also address a range of important considerations, including promoting informal physical activity, supporting female participation in sport, ensuring universal design and accessibility, and managing traffic, access, and parking.
Mayor Larwood emphasised Council’s continued commitment to transparency throughout the master planning process.
"We're dedicated to involving the community every step of the way," said Mayor Larwood.
"Any decisions about the site's future are being made in the open, and community input is a top priority whilst developing the masterplan."
Three finalised master planning options will be presented to Council for endorsement at the January 28 Council Meeting, before being shared with the community for further feedback in early 2025.
“We’ll be asking our community to provide feedback on specific elements of each plan, rather than simply choosing one of the three options,” Mayor Larwood explained.
“This valuable input will help shape the final master plan for the Prospect Lifestyle Precinct, and I encourage everyone to stay informed and engaged as we work together to shape the future of this landmark site.”
