Council takes next steps in Prospect Lifestyle Precinct masterplan
Council is pleased to announce the next phase in the development of the future Prospect Lifestyle Precinct.
At last night’s Council Workshop, three preliminary master planning scenarios were presented by Walter Brooke and Taylor Cullity Lethlean, outlining potential futures for the precinct.
City of Prospect Mayor, Matt Larwood, expressed Council’s excitement at seeing the preliminary scenarios.
"This is a great step forward for our community," said Mayor Larwood.
"We're excited to transform Prospect Oval and its surrounds into a vibrant hub that attracts a higher level of community usage, premier sports and economic growth.”
The three scenarios incorporate feedback received from the community during Phase 1 consultation in July and August 2024.
“We listened to what our community wanted,” said Mayor Larwood.
“They told us they wanted more green space, increased community use, better facilities for sports and recreation, and high-quality mixed-used development opportunities. We think these scenarios deliver on those priorities.”
The proposed scenarios also address important considerations such as promoting informal physical activity, supporting female participation in sport, ensuring universal design and accessibility, and managing traffic, access, and parking.
“These three scenarios represent a modular approach,” explained Mayor Larwood.
“Rather than selecting a single preferred option, we’re focused on identifying the best elements from each scenario to create a truly exceptional precinct.”
Mayor Larwood also highlighted Council’s commitment to transparency whilst undertaking the master planning process.
“No decisions about the site’s future have been made at this stage, and all masterplan steps to date have been undertaken in the public domain,” said Mayor Larwood.
“We remain committed to the strongest possible level of community participation.”
Formal master planning options will be presented to Council in early 2025.
Once endorsed, these options will be shared with the community for further consultation and feedback, ultimately leading to the development of a final master plan.
“Council is committed to creating a world-class precinct that everyone in Prospect can be proud of,” said Mayor Larwood.
“We look forward to working with our community to continue shaping the future of the Prospect Lifestyle Precinct.”
