Neighbour Day
Neighborhood vibes and picnic bites
To celebrate Neighbour Day, the City of Prospect has partnered with local residents to host a series of pop-up picnics throughout March 2026. These are grassroots, resident-led picnics held across our wards with the goal to connect neighbours in their local parks and reserves. To ensure the events truly reflect the local spirit, residents have been involved in choosing the activities provided.
We would love for you to join us at these picnics to connect with the community and celebrate what Neighbour Day is all about.

Neighbour Day, celebrated on the last Sunday of March every year, provides the perfect opportunity to increase social connection in your local area.
It's an annual celebration that encourages people to connect with their neighbours and build stronger community bonds. It promotes inclusivity, kindness, and mutual support among residents, fostering a sense of belonging.
Why is it important?
Neighbour Day provides a valuable opportunity for individuals and communities to strengthen their bonds, build a more supportive environment, and create a lasting positive impact on their neighbourhoods.
- Builds Stronger Relationships
It encourages neighbours to interact, get to know each other, and build friendships. These connections provide valuable support networks during challenging times and in our increasingly isolated society.
- Tackles Loneliness
Bringing people together is central to Neighbour Day, addressing the significant issue of loneliness and social isolation.
- Creates a Stronger Community
When neighbours know and support each other, it fosters a stronger sense of community spirit. This can lead to increased safety, a greater sense of belonging, and a more vibrant neighbourhood.
How can I get involved?
There are so many ways you can get involved in Neighbour Day and it can be in a little or big way. Organise a simple get-together like a BBQ, or a picnic, or even just offer a cup of tea to your neighbour.
Key Reminders:
- Small steps, big impact: Even small gestures can go a long way in building meaningful connections.
- Inclusivity matters: Ensure everyone feels welcome and included in your Neighbour Day activities.
- Embrace the fun: The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy connecting with your community!
Neighbours of Prospect
To celebrate the day, not just today but every day, we spent time with a few key members of our community. We asked them what they thought about their neighbours, friends, family, and living in Prospect.
These are their stories.
