Collaboration takes centre stage in the Irish Harp Reserve upgrade

Council is excited to announce the grand opening of the much-anticipated Irish Harp Reserve upgrade.

Located on Regency Road in the city's north, the park has undergone a significant transformation and is now officially open to the public.

City of Prospect Mayor, Matt Larwood, highlighted the inclusive nature of the upgraded reserve.

"The new play equipment caters to children of all ages with climbing structures, a flying fox, and a nature play area," he said.

"Families can relax in comfort with new shelters, BBQs, picnic tables, and ample seating."

“Accessibility was also a key priority for Council, with the reserve now DDA compliant.”

As well as new play equipment and recreation facilities, the reserve also includes open lawn space which doubles as an enclosed dog park, solar LED lighting and new irrigation systems.

Artist Ella Simpson's collaborative mural graces the park's eastern entrance, while a playable aeroplane sculpture by local sculptor Wes Maselli commemorates Robert Graham Carey's unplanned landing in the reserve in 1917.

Mayor Larwood emphasised the role of resident feedback in shaping the new reserve.

“Our community has consistently told us that sustaining these open spaces is crucial, and we know they play an important role in maintaining one’s health and wellbeing,” he said.

"Extensive community consultation ensured the final design of the upgraded Irish Harp Reserve incorporated the features most desired by our community."

The Irish Harp Reserve upgrade is also a testament to the strong partnership between Council and the State Government.

The State Government provided $325,000 towards the upgrade through the Open Space Grants Program, with an additional $522,000 contributed by Council.

Mayor Larwood expressed his gratitude to the State Government.

"This investment ensures Irish Harp Reserve will continue to serve Prospect for generations to come," he said.
