Collinswood Shopping Centre Precinct Upgrade
The intersection of North East Road and Cassie Street, Collinswood
Implementation is scheduled to begin June 2020.
The project scope includes improved infrastructure, urban design, streetscape and art opportunities, while engaging with businesses and residents to build civic pride and create a happier and more connected community. The project is being delivered in partnership with the Town of Walkerville, which allows for works to also occur on the opposite side of North East Road to further enhance the identity of the precinct.
Council endorsed the Concept Plan for design development and implementation this year. Key elements of the concept plan that will be delivered as ‘quick wins’ before 30 June 2020 are:
- Planting of advanced street trees in Cassie Street
- Under-storey plantings to new and established street trees to both sides of North East Road
- Installation of fairy lights to tree trunks and canopies to both sides of North East Road
- Cleaning of existing footpath pavers
- Commencement of process to establish murals and 3D artworks.
Council has allocated $50,000 to the project in FY19/20, with an additional $7,000 contributed from the Community Art budget for art integration opportunities (also in FY19/20).
The Town of Walkerville has agreed to upgrade the other side of Main North Road (the top end of Smith Street) to be consistent with the overall precinct plan, and have allocated $20,000 to upgrading the affected area within their Council boundary.
City of Prospect wants to take the opportunity to thank you all for your active involvement in the community consultation process.
