COVID-19 update

City of Prospect has taken a number of important and proactive steps to protect our community and staff as we face this unprecedented situation of the global COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic and the nationwide Public Health Emergency.

We need to take all reasonable steps available to protect our community, our Elected Members, our staff and volunteers (and their families) against the spread of this infection while ensuring we deliver services as close to ‘business as usual’ as possible.

Children's Writing Competition

Each year during Children’s Book Week, schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. Teachers and librarians conduct activities relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading.

*CBCA Book Week 2020 will now be held in October on the following dates: 17 - 23 OCTOBER 2020. These later dates will apply in 2020 only, recognising the exceptional circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.*

Winners for 2020

Reception - year 2:

Jesaya Brandt won the $150 voucher for this category. All honourable mentions received a $30 book voucher.

Bianca Gilmour won the Jenni Cotton Memorial Trophy and $150 book voucher from Pegi Williams.

2020 Children's Writing Competition

This year’s Book Week theme is ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’, and students are encouraged to submit an entry based on the theme.

Curious Creatures, Wild Minds

There will be three categories with a restriction on word count:

  • Reception to Year 2  - no more than 100 words
  • Years 3 to 5 - no more than 250 words
  • Years 6 to 7 no more than 500 words

A first prize of a $150 book voucher will be awarded in each category, along with a $30 book voucher for an honourable mention in each category.

The winner of the Years 6-7 category will be also presented with the perpetual ‘Jenni Cotton Memorial Trophy’.

Entries can be individual or a class entry, so schools are welcome to participate.

Entry is free and all entries must be received by Sunday 27 September 2020 emailed to or handed in to Prospect Library at 128 Prospect Road, Prospect.

The prizes will be kindly donated by the Friends of Prospect Library.
