New Roads and Park naming

Expert advice has been received and historical research completed to determine proposed names for the Roads and a small Park located within stage one of this development. Council is now interested to hear from the broad community of City of Prospect to receive comments regarding the proposed names.

The Prospect 1838 Estate is a development taking place at the previously vacant land at 250 Churchill Road Prospect. With the development now under construction, it is necessary for Council to consider names for the Roads and a Park within stage one of the new subdivision.

The developer has considered Council’s ‘Selection of Road Names Policy’ and undertaken their own research of suitable names for the roads. The names and historical information reflecting the vision of the Estate which is dedicated to 1838 historical Prospect were provided in Agenda Item 13.1 of the 26 June 2018 Meeting.

  • A link to the 26 June 2018 Council Meeting Agenda containing the relevant report can be found here.
  • A link to find the relevant meeting minute (final decision) for item 13.1 can be found here.
  • A link to the 10 July 2018 Council Meeting Agenda containing the most recent report detailing the Road Naming decision making process can be found here.

The recommended Road and Park names have been drawn from two sources, one being Kaurna names that have been provided by appropriate language experts who are nominated representatives of the Kaurna community, and the other being sourced by the developer according to research relating to local history at the time of colonial settlement at around the year 1838.

Council has endorsed the following as being suitable for community consultation:

  • The road mark ‘Road B’ (see figure 1) be assigned the name of Parnta Avenue, Prospect;
  • The road mark ‘Road C’ (see figure 1) be assigned the name of Irish Harp Lane, Prospect;
  • The road mark ‘Road D’ (see figure 1) be assigned the name of Lime Kiln Lane, Prospect;
  • The road mark ‘Road E’ (see figure 1) be assigned the name of Payinthi Drive, Prospect.
  • The park between Road A and Road C (see figure 1) be assigned the name Pingku Walk.
