To become an Australian citizen, an application must first be lodged with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). The Department will assess the application under the Australian Citizenship Act 1948.
When the application has been approved by DIAC, a certificate will be forwarded to your local Council's offices.
There are four (4) ceremonies held each year. The main ceremony, a significant City of Prospect event, is held on the evening before Australia Day, 25 January, in the Prospect Town Hall.
Two smaller ceremonies are held to celebrate Harmony Day in March and Citizenship Day in September. A mid year ceremony is held in the Town Hall, usually in June or July, as circumstances require.
Each ceremony is presided over by the Mayor.
