Noise Control

There are several different types of noise pollution categories, and each one has a recommended action for any resident.

With respect to Council’s ability to enforce noise related issues, Council is only authorised to enforce noise issues that relate to animals; ie dogs, roosters, etc.

However, the information below relates to potential noise pollution from different sources.

The SA Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is the authority which regulates other noise complaints. Some information on the most common noise complaints which may be useful for residents are listed below.

Lawn Mowers & Power Equipment which exceed a noise level of 45dB(A) measured on a neighbouring property can only be used between the hours of 8am and 8pm Monday to Saturday and 9.00am to 8.00pm on Sunday.

Air Conditioners which exceed a noise level of 45dB(A) measured on a neighbouring property can only be used between the hours of 8am and 10pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 10pm on Sunday. Exceptionally noisy machines can have more strict time restrictions applied.

Full information on noise regulation can be located on the EPA website here.
