Rose Street Public Realm Upgrades

City of Prospect mailed 102 postcards to residents along Rose Street- from Prospect Road to Churchill Road- inviting each guest and their families to join Council in a discussion of ideas for the already underway Cinema Precinct and the subsequent changes to support Rose Street. Approximately 55 residents (31 registered) were able to join Council at the event, while others phoned in to voice their comments prior to the event.

The following is a summation of the comments received.

What was liked most about the proposed plans:

  • Increased amenities to promote active travel (wide paved footpaths, bike lanes)
  • Increased greenery ( trees, verge grasses)
  • Inclusion of public art ( sculptures)

What was most concerned about:

  • Traffic – volume and speed
  • Parking
  • Traffic control devices impeding access to their properties

Most common suggested changes:

  • Allow right hand turns to be made from Prospect  Rd into neighbouring streets
  • Install or relocate traffic lights/pedestrian crossing closer to Rose St
  • Remove traffic control devices to allow easy access to properties
  • Restrict parking to residents only
  • Plant evergreen trees
  • Improve street lighting
What’s next for Rose Street?

While all comments are under consideration, Council would like to propose a focus on:

  • Tree consolidation/planting
  • WSUD (Water Sensitive Urban Design)
  • Parking
  • Verge facelifting
  • Design development of Cinema Streetscape

Thank you again for those who were able to attend the night. Council plans to move forward and present a schedule of works to the public in due course. These ideas will first require budget approval as well as a feasibility approval. Stay tuned for more information.
